Boys and Girls Do Learn Differently
Posted on: Thursday, 17 January 2008, 15:00 CST
CLARKSTON, Mich., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Every parent knows that boys and girls are different. However, most parents do not know that emerging science is proving that they learn differently, respond to different role models and thrive in different environments. What does this mean for your child?
World renowned writer and speaker, Dr. Leonard Sax, will present the latest research from the emerging science of gender differences on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Everest Academy, 5935 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, Michigan. The talk is open to the public, free of charge and sponsored by Everest Academy. The presentation will take place at 2pm, during the school's Open House program which is from 1:00pm to 4:00pm the same day.
Dr. Sax' ground breaking book, "Why Gender Matters," addresses the critical differences in brain development, behaviors, learning styles and environmental needs of boys and girls. In his latest book, "Boys Adrift," he addresses the growing epidemic of unmotivated boys and proposes strategies to help young men to achieve their potential. Dr Sax' presentation will touch on content from both books and will also clarify the advantages of gender- specific education.
"We are delighted to have Dr. Sax come to the Detroit area and share his knowledge on the important subject of gender specific education," said Everest Principal Richard Copland. "At Everest, we know that boys and girls learn differently. We offer a gender specific approach to help students reach their highest potential in an environment in which he or she will excel."
Founded in 1991, Everest Academy is a private, independent Catholic school offering co-ed education for preschool through grade 2, and gender-specific education for grade 3 to high school. Everest offers a seamless path of education from preschool through high school on one campus.
Everest Director of Formation Father Daniel Pajerski, LC, said, "Our proven approach forms the whole child in an environment that cultivates their human and spiritual virtues, encourages their service to others, and promotes academic excellence for both genders."
