HealthUnity, a leading provider of health information exchange (HIE) products and hosted solutions, and Suffolk RHIO, Inc., a leading Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO), are proud to announce the selection of HealthUnity's Regional Health Information Network product for deployment in Long Island, New York. This major deployment project was launched on November 1st 2007. The test deployment was completed in record time on 7th January, 2008.
The goals of this broad-spectrum health information technology implementation are: improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of patient care; reducing the costs of patient care; improving outcomes of patient care; and increasing patients' involvement in their care.
"We are excited to be embarking on this mission to establish a clinical data exchange in our region. We evaluated several approaches and decided that HealthUnity's solution offered the best model of functionality for our structure. We plan on continuing to add new services that are integrated to the HealthUnity solution. By addressing the privacy, security and overall health information exchange needs of our constituents, we are well on our way to building a sustainable RHIO in New York," said Simminate Ennever, Director, Suffolk RHIO.
Suffolk RHIO's mission is to provide a high level system of clinical data exchange that will enhance communication and improve access to patient health information among providers in the Long Island region. Current stakeholders include hospitals and nursing homes.
"We are proud to be associated with Suffolk RHIO. With our careful attention to privacy, security, ease of use, lowest total cost of ownership and incremental deployment, we are confident of helping Suffolk RHIO succeed in its mission," said Prem Urali, President and CEO of HealthUnity Corp.
"HealthUnity's product is built on a modern service-oriented architecture. The product leverages the latest advancement in Microsoft's .NET, SQL Server and BizTalk Server products. By leveraging these core servers; HealthUnity has built a robust health information exchange solution that can address the needs of regional, statewide, as well as nationwide health information exchange deployments. We are proud to be associated with HealthUnity and Suffolk RHIO in this deployment," said Steve Aylward, Microsoft's General Manager for Health & Life Sciences.
Over a two year period the project anticipates deployment at 3 hospitals, 5 nursing homes, lab and radiology groups, and over 500 physicians in what would be one of most advanced health information exchange solutions in the nation. HealthUnity's smart client tool (EHR Lite) for physicians who have not yet adopted an EMR solution in their practice may also be deployed.
