Wayne County Community College District's Downriver Campus Partners to Bring Two Events to The Taylor Community

DETROIT, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Wayne County Community College District's Downriver Campus has partnered with two area institutions to present free activities for residents. Both programs -- "Learn To Skate," and "A Bridge To Asia Extravaganza" are offered by WCCCD's Continuing Education Division and are open to the public free of charge.
WCCCD's Continuing Education Division, in partnership with the Taylor SportsPlex presents "Learn to Skate," an event for children and adults. This event will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the Taylor SportsPlex, located on 13333 Telegraph Road, Taylor, Michigan. Instructors will be on hand to teach participants the fundamentals of ice skating, with lessons geared toward the individual skater's abilities. An off-ice exercise session will be included in the session. Skate rental is available, but participants may bring their own skates.
On Saturday, February 9, WCCCD along with the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, Inc. (IIMD), will present "A Bridge to Asia Extravaganza" at the WCCCD Downriver Campus, 21000 Northline Road, in Taylor. Activities run from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., and will showcase the beauty of Asia, allowing participants to visit educational and marketplace booths depicting the life and culture of eight diverse Asian countries. Works of art will be on sale at the marketplace booths.
"A Bridge to Asia Extravaganza" also will include artifact displays, and hands-on activities such as calligraphy, yoyos, henna, and origami. Participants will be able to sample Asian food, and enjoy performances by musicians and dancers.
