6 OB/GYN Doctors Move to West Penn
By Rick Stouffer
Six physician-members of Greater Pittsburgh OB/GYN Associates, one of the region’s largest women’s health practices, are moving their patients and affiliation to West Penn Hospital from UPMC Mercy.
The affiliation change comes almost exactly six years after the entire physician practice moved its business to Mercy, recently acquired by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Prior to early 2002, Greater Pittsburgh OB/GYN had been affiliated with Alliance Ventures, a Highmark Inc. subsidiary.
“We are delighted they have decided to join our hospital and anticipate they will be practicing at West Penn in the spring,” said Edward M. Klaman, West Penn’s president and CEO, in a statement.
The physicians relocating to West Penn cited the hospital’s high- quality, state-of-the-art obstetrical and gynecological care as a driving factor in their decision to leave UPMC Mercy. Together the doctors have delivered more than 800 babies annually.
“West Penn Hospital has a long-standing reputation for its high- quality care and knowledgeable, friendly staff,” said John C. Mellinger, one of the relocating doctors, in a statement. Other physicians moving to West Penn include Christine M. Gallis, Christina M. Labella, Larry P. McNulty, Karen A. Roperti and Andrew J. Sword.
It’s anticipated the physicians will maintain privileges at UPMC Mercy for several months to assure continuity of care for their obstetrical and gynecological patients. They will maintain offices in the communities they serve, including Green Tree, Moon, Bethel Park, West Mifflin and Cranberry.
