TORONTO - Health Canada is warning Canadians not to use an unauthorized product called Yeniujyn which is marketed as a cure for "involuntary passage of urine."
The department says the product was found to contain high levels of lead and arsenic and may pose a serious health risk.
Manufactured by Kwangchow United Manufactory of Chinese Medicine, it is not authorized for sale in Canada, but has been available at retail stores and over the Internet.
The Canadian distributor, Wing Quon Enterprises Ltd., has voluntarily recalled the product and Health Canada is advising retailers to remove the product from their shelves.
Consumers who bought the product should return it to the place of purchase and see a health practitioner if they used it and are worried about their health.
Symptoms of exposure to heavy metals include - but are not limited to - nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle cramps, diarrhea, heart abnormalities, anemia as well as liver and nervous system problems.
