AG Wants L.A. Weight Loss Assets Frozen
The state Attorney General’s Health Care Section asked Commonwealth Court on Friday to freeze the assets of a national weight-loss chain and its owner, who abruptly closed the stores earlier this month.
The action occurred one day after the attorney general filed a consumer protection lawsuit against Pure Weight Loss Inc., formerly known as L.A. Weight Loss Centers Inc., and company owner Vahan Karian. The chain operated 47 stores in Pennsylvania, including several in Allegheny and surrounding counties.
Attorney General Tom Corbett said the application for a preliminary injunction and asset freeze asks the court to preserve all funds which could be used to provide refunds to customers for prepaid products and services they never received.
