Leading Naturopathic Doctor and Integrative Cancer Treatment Expert Starts 4-Year Term
CHICAGO, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt has appointed Timothy C. Birdsall, ND to serve a four-year term on the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Birdsall is vice president of integrative medicine for Cancer Treatment Centers of America and a licensed naturopathic physician. A nationally known lecturer and practitioner of naturopathic medicine, Birdsall is a 1985 graduate of Bastyr University in Seattle where he served on the faculty for five years.
The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine advises and makes recommendations to the director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) on matters related to the centers research activities and functions. Birdsall will be part of an 18-member council that primarily provides secondary review of grant applications in light of NCCAM scientific program priorities and program balance. The council includes nine members licensed in complementary or alternative medicine and three are from the general public.
