North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System Activates Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager(TM), Completes First Phase of Project On-Time and On-Budget
Eclipsys CorporationÃ®, (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes CompanyÃ®, today announced that the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (North Shore-LIJ) Health System has successfully activated integrated modules of Sunrise Clinical Manager™, including Sunrise Acute Care™ and Sunrise Emergency Care™, on-time and on-budget at Long Island Jewish Hospital, Schneider Children's Hospital, and Zucker Hillside Hospital. With this activation, North Shore-LIJ has taken the first step towards having a shared enterprise electronic medical record (EMR) across its entire health system.
North Shore-LIJ is the nation's third-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system with a service area of 5.2 million people in Long Island, Queens and Staten Island. It is the largest employer on Long Island, with about 37,500 employees, 8,000 physicians and 10,000 nurses.
Coinciding with the opening of a new Emergency Department at Long Island Jewish Hospital was the activation of Sunrise Emergency Care and its Triage, Tracking and Disposition modules. The interactive Tracking Board provides real-time tracking of patients, their acuity levels, locations, laboratory and radiology orders, and results. Now, from the moment a patient enters Long Island Jewish Medical Center's Emergency Department, North Shore-LIJ's clinicians can quickly prioritize care based on acuity, chief complaint and organizational protocols to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered in its Emergency Department.
Six weeks after the activation of Sunrise Emergency Care, 5,000 clinicians at Long Island Jewish Hospital, Schneider Children's Hospital and Zucker Hillside Hospital began using Sunrise Clinical Manager to manage patient lists, comprehensive clinical results (including laboratory, cardiology, radiology, operative notes, ED information), and prescriber order entry for laboratory and radiology studies. Links to PACs and EKG images were also integrated into the Eclipsys solution. Michael Oppenheim, MD, chief medical information officer, noted, "This is a key first-step in the exciting journey towards a fully computerized medical record across our health system."
