Police Appeal for Help in Finding Parents of Abandoned Baby Girl

Posted on: Thursday, 31 January 2008, 09:00 CST

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO - Toronto police have issued an urgent request for help in finding the parents of an abandoned baby girl believed to be about eight months old.

The child was found Wednesday afternoon face down on a freezing cement landing in an outdoor parking garage stairwell at a north-end mall. Insp. Kim Yeandle says that apart from a few scratches and bruises, the baby is healthy and in hospital, "which is absolutely fantastic."

However, Yeandle said police are anxious for clues because "somebody must know this baby, somebody must miss her now."

The child was wearing a white snowsuit with a green hat. A surveillance video shows a man leaving her in the stairwell and then driving away in a four-door green car believed to be a recent model Ford Escort.

Yeandle said police are "working on trying to identify the car," but have not been able to identify the driver from the video. The girl was found by a female passerby who thought she was walking past a doll, until it began to cry.
