StarKist(R) and Charlie(R) the Tuna Team Up With the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women to Fight Heart Disease
February is National Heart Health Month and Del Monte Foods (NYSE: DLM) today announces that its StarKist® tuna brand is partnering with the American Heart Association to support the Go Red For Women movement. A cause that is close to the StarKist brand and Charlie® the Tuna’s heart — research studies have shown that tuna is a heart-healthy food and is naturally high in Omega-3 fatty acids and contains less than half the saturated fat and cholesterol of beef, pork or chicken.
During the month of February, StarKist will donate 10 cents to the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement for every pouch of tuna sold. This heart-felt effort could raise up to $350,000 to support the fight against heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the U.S. Approximately one in three deaths are attributed to cardiovascular disease and an estimated 80 million people in the U.S. have one or more types of cardiovascular disease.
The Omega-3 fatty acids found in tuna have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, making it an ideal food for heart health. Tuna also contains less than half the saturated fat and cholesterol of beef, pork and even chicken.
