Central Logic Implements Patient Transfer Software at Riverside Health System

Posted on: Tuesday, 5 February 2008, 06:00 CST

Today, Central Logic Healthcare Systems (www.centrallogic.com) announced that Riverside Health System in Newport News, Va. has implemented Central Logic's patient transfer center software, ForeFront Transfer™.

ForeFront Transfer is designed to streamline interfacility patient transfers and facilitate critical transfer information for physicians and hospital administrative personnel. It enables hospital and medical staff to take physician referral calls and correlate patient admission, enabling quick, accurate decisions based on individual patients' needs, doctor availability and the facility's ability to accommodate a new patient.

"In mid 2005, Riverside identified the need for a patient transfer service. We realized early on that this service requires software that can document, track and report patient transfer data. In June 2007, I was introduced to a software solution designed to fit those needs," said Georgia Todd RN, Director of Customer Relations Management at Riverside Health System. "This was Central Logic's ForeFront Transfer Software. Its format helps staff to document in real time, track and time stamp their transfer along with the flexibility to quickly produce a wide variety of requested and required reports. This software is very customer friendly. In addition, the efficiency of this process within the Central Logic ForeFront software makes it possible for the nurses to complete their patient transfer record in real time and to quickly return to clinical work with more patients."

Riverside Health System employs more than 7,000 people, including over 300 physicians and specialists. The transfer center resides within a clinical call center and in a typical month facilitates transfers and transports for approximately 800 patients. Riverside's patients come from physician offices and other acute and long-term facilities across Virginia. The clinical call center, along with coordinating transfers, performs symptom-based triage, provides health information, class registration and serves more than 120,000 people per year.

"Riverside Health System is an ideal example of why patient transfer centers are important and critical; healthcare providers need to make quick and informed decisions," said Dr. Darin Vercillo, President & CEO of Central Logic. "One call to the transfer center from a physician office, emergency department or other medical facility starts the process to effectively facilitate finding an accepting physician, appropriate bed and transportation for their patient in a timely manner. Also, as a trauma 2 center, Riverside Health System can handle most trauma cases, except in cases where a specific specialist or procedure is not available. In these instances, Riverside can stabilize the patient, and then quickly and accurately transfer the patient to an appropriate facility."

Riverside Health System has served the people of Southeastern Virginia since 1916. Its mission is to improve the health status of the citizens of their community by delivering quality healthcare via specialized programs in acute, long term, rehabilitative, ambulatory, wellness, preventive, educational, home care and behavioral health services. Medical services are organized to provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care.
