MONTREAL - Quebec's health minister says allowing a patient to use her health insurance card to pay for an operation in a Montreal private clinic is good news for the population.
Health Minister Philippe Couillard said in Quebec City today it's an example of how the private sector can be put to use for the good of the public.
The operation will take place in the Rockland MD private clinic because of a lack of staff at Montreal's Sacre-Coeur Hospital.
A 77-year-old woman will undergo a partial vasectomy at the clinic which was also rented for the day for at least four hernia operations.
The operating room and staff will be paid for by the province and Couillard adds that the woman's operation will not cost more than if it were done in a hospital.
The clinic and the hospital have an agreement which makes an operating room available two times a week.
