Free Children's Dental Day; Expert Source on Children's Dental Health Available

Posted on: Thursday, 7 February 2008, 12:00 CST

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ --

WHAT: February is National Children's Dental Health Month. Dr. Lee Weinstein, a leading Arizona pediatric dentist in Scottsdale and his practice Dental Associates for Kids Only, will be offering a Free Children's Dental Day on Tuesday, February 19, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The first 30 patients that call and schedule appointments will receive free of charge: comprehensive exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments and necessary X-rays. Dr. Weinstein will also do a show and tell, and discuss homecare, nutrition and diet counseling with patients and their parents. Each patient will also receive a free dental health package containing: a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, homecare and nutritional information, and prizes. HOW: Parents should call to schedule an appointment asap: 480-767-5600. WHERE: 12020 East Shea Blvd., Suite 8, Scottsdale, AZ 85259 Phone: 480-767-5600. Map, office tour and other information: http://www.littlewhitetooth.com/. HEALTH FACTS: Early childhood tooth decay (caries) is the single most common chronic childhood disease -- 20 times more common than diabetes. Nearly 20 percent of preschoolers, half of second graders, and three-quarters of 15 year olds are adversely affected by tooth decay. There are 2.6 children lacking dental coverage for every child lacking health coverage. BACKGROUND: Dental Associates for Kids Only is a unique place where kids and their families explore a fun travel theme; partner with Dr. Weinstein and his staff in an engaging way to learn about good dental care; and feel entertained, safe and comforted. Dr. Weinstein has the Southwest's largest toothpaste collection, with more than 250 tubes from every corner of the globe. ADDITIONAL STORY IDEAS: Most kids (and some adults) are afraid of the dentist and other doctors because of bad early experiences. Dr. Weinstein would like to help parents by: 1) Giving them five strategies to help their kids overcome their fear of dentists and doctors; 2) Recommending the five key things to look for when selecting a healthcare professional for their kids; 3) Explaining the vast differences between a general dentist and pediatric dentist; and 4) Offering six tips for caring for their kids' teeth at home.
