CO-PILOT Jon Ker is still being treated for his injuries.

He is suffering from swelling of the brain and is a patient at Walkergate Hospital, Newcastle.

Despite Mr Ker’s injuries, Mr Martin says he is confident his friend will make a full recovery.

He said: “He is a strong man. At the moment he just has some short-term memory loss. He can’t remember anything of the crash and can’t understand why he is in hospital. The doctors think it is best if he is not disturbed at the moment. I’m sure he will recover, though.”

Mr Ker’s injuries are similar to those suffered by Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond when he crashed a car at 288mph in September 2006 while trying to break the

British land speed record.

He was airlifted to hospital suffering from a swelling of the brain, which causes memory loss, after his car flipped over several times, but made a full recovery.
