WAUKESHA, Wis., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ — LifeCare Hospitals of Wisconsin is pleased to announce the opening of its new Center for Advanced Wound Healing. The hospital will hold an open house for physicians, case managers and anyone interested in touring the facility on Wednesday, February 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The 3000-square-foot-Center is located on the lower level of the hospital and features hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, ultrasonic wound debridement technology, private treatment areas and a Limb Salvage program. The Center is adjacent to LifeCare’s operating suites and radiology department, which features CT Scan, transcutaneous oximetry measurement, and Laser Doppler study capability. In addition to offering advanced technology, the Center’s transdisciplinary team consists of physicians, therapists, nurses, dietitians, and hyperbaric technicians.

“Our new Center is the only comprehensive wound care program located within a complex acute care hospital in the state,” says LifeCare Hospitals of Wisconsin Chief Executive Officer Steve Schultz. “This new service reduces the need for patient transfers and allows patients to remain focused on their healing and recovery. The Center is an excellent option for physicians and patients who may have thought their only treatment options involved travel to Madison or Milwaukee.”

“The ultrasonic debridement devices we utilize in the Center allow us to care for a greater number of high-acuity patients, including those who may be anesthesia incapable or restricted,” explains Stephanie Woelfel PT, MPT, CWS, FACCWS, director of the Center for Advanced Wound Healing. “Ultrasonic therapy is generally less painful than traditional wound debridement, and also offers antibacterial properties. Patients often experience accelerated healing and improved clinical outcomes.”

Opened in September of 2007, the 62-bed LifeCare Hospitals of Wisconsin is one of the few hospitals in the country designed and built exclusively for the treatment of medically complex and treatment resistant patients who require extended hospitalization, typically for more than 25 days. The facility is located on a 40-acre parcel of land adjacent to GE Healthcare’s Diagnostic Imaging World Headquarters; it is approximately 25 minutes from downtown Milwaukee and 55 minutes from Madison.

In addition to the Center for Advanced Wound Healing, the 60,000-square foot, state-of-the-art hospital features private rooms, including four bariatric suites; 10-bed intensive care unit; in-house diagnostic services including CT scan; surgical suites – including a bariatric operating room – for both inpatient and outpatient surgery; designated multi-therapy gym for physical, occupational and speech therapies; in-house laboratory services; aggressive ventilator weaning program; medical and interventional pain management services; cardiac telemetry with mobile critical care monitoring; and a highly experienced nursing staff certified with Advanced Cardiac Life Support training. The facility is located off Hwy T and I-94 on Golf Road in Pewaukee.
