Women Heart Disease Survivors and Experts Available During Heart Month
Posted on: Monday, 11 February 2008, 09:00 CST
WomenHeart:
WHAT:
In an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease and its misdiagnosis among women, WomenHeart is offering reporters compelling interviews with its members -- women who have and/or who are living with heart disease. Their personal stories demonstrate the lack of awareness nationwide about the seriousness of heart disease and shed light on organizations like WomenHeart that support and empower women to lead healthier lives.
By sharing their experiences, WomenHeart hopes women across the country will learn about early detection, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. WomenHeart (www.womenheart.org) is the only national organization that supports, educates and advocates on behalf of the eight million American women living with heart disease.
WHO:
Carol Allred, a heart attack survivor and president of the board of directors for WomenHeart
Suzanne Banfield, Ph.D., a triple coronary-bypass survivor, nutritionist, and co-author of WomenHeart All Heart Family Cookbook
Kathy Kastan, a bypass survivor, co-author of WomenHeart All Heart Family Cookbook and author of From the Heart: A Woman's Guide to Living Well with Heart Disease
WomenHeart also has members spread across the U.S. in cities like New York, Boston, Miami, Atlanta and others.
Members and experts can discuss personal stories as well as stroke and risk factors such as hypertension. Lisa M. Tate, CEO of WomenHeart and Susan K. Bennett, M.D., medical advisor for WomenHeart are also available for interviews.
WHY:
Heart attacks kill eight times as many women as breast cancer. Millions of women are misdiagnosed each year, and more importantly, they need resources to help and their families deal with this pressing issue.
