RehabCare Group, Inc. (NYSE: RHB) has announced the appointment of John H. Short, Ph.D., President and CEO, to Maryville University's Board of Trustees for a three-year term. He will serve on the board's Institutional Advancement Committee.
Maryville University is a private institution offering approximately 50 undergraduate, seven master's and two doctoral degree programs to 3,422 students. Through its School of Health Professions, the St. Louis-based university offers degrees in physical therapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation counseling.
"As an employer of allied health professionals, we're very interested in both the quality and availability of people with this type of training," said Dr. Short. "With an aging population, there is going to be an ever-widening gap between the demand and supply of therapists and other health professionals. I look forward to working with Maryville to develop solutions for closing this gap and to enhance the quality of therapists that companies like RehabCare hire."
A member of RehabCare's Board of Directors since 1991, Dr. Short has been President and CEO of RehabCare since 2004. Previous to his current role, he was the founder and Managing Partner of Phase 2 Consulting, a management and economic consulting firm serving the healthcare industry. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from San Jose State College, and a doctoral degree in economics from University of Utah.
With more than 25 years experience, RehabCare is a leading provider of physical rehabilitation program management services in about 1,250 hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities throughout the United States.
