Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas, Robert Philpot Column: Tonight, Look for ‘Model,’ ‘Idol’ Behavior
By Robert Philpot, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas
Feb. 20–If you’re somehow confused about what country we live in, look at tonight’s lineup, which features American Idol, America’s Next Top Model and American Experience. One of these series needs to figure out a way to feature America Ferrera.
Stuff to watch or record
American Idol: The top 12 young women perform in their first voting round. Kristy Lee Cook lists Oregon as home but used to sing at Cowboys Arlington; Kady Malloy is from Houston. Can Kelly Clarkson Texas-singer lightning strike twice? 7 p.m., KDFW/Channel 4
America’s Next Top Model:Entertainment Weekly cover girl Tyra Banks begins “cycle” 10 of her model-search show, with Paulina Porizkova taking over Twiggy’s seat at the judges’ table and no North Texas representative among the top 14. 7 p.m., KDAF/Channel 33
Some Like It Hot: You think, “Oh, the great comedy starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as guys who hide out in drag in an all-girl band while running from gangsters, with one of Marilyn Monroe’s best performances.” I think, “Oh, great, now I have that Power Station song from the ’80s stuck in my head.” 7 p.m., TCM
Law & Order: Criminal Intent: “Detectives Robert Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe) … follow a trail of counterfeit and poisoned mouthwash from the streets of Harlem to the FDA and Wall Street.” Sometimes you have to let the synopsis speak for itself. 8 p.m., KXAS/Channel 5
Supernanny: Wendy Wilson, former member of pop group Wilson Phillips, tries to hold on for one more day with the help of “Supernanny” Jo Frost in the first celebrity Supernanny. Wilson, the daughter of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, probably didn’t have the best training to handle four preschool children. 8 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8
MythBusters: For their 100th episode, the team investigates just whether the escapes and stunts in MacGyver were really possible. And they do it with just a shoebox, a Dr Pepper can, a coat hanger and two AA batteries. 8 p.m., DSC
Ghost Hunters International: Here’s a different kind of crossing over: Josh Gates of Sci-Fi’s Destination Truth joins the GHI crew, and all go to Germany to tackle the legend of Frankenstein’s castle. It’s allegedly haunted. In fact, it’s alive. It’s — AAALLLIIIVVVVVVVE!!!! 8 p.m., SCIFI
Law & Order: While Criminal Intent goes dental, “the mothership” gets medical, with a plot involving the murder of a doctor. 9 p.m., KXAS/Channel 5
Cashmere Mafia: A multimillionaire pursues Juliet (Miranda Otto). Isn’t a multimillionaire pursuing one of the women on Lipstick Jungle? And some people wonder why critics insist on comparing the two shows. 9 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8
American Experience: The conclusion of the award-winning documentary Eyes on the Prize examines the 1963 assassination of Medgar Evers and the 1964 voter-registration drive. 10 p.m., KERA/Channel 13
Project Runway: While we ponder whether last week’s “tie” for last was a cop-out that allowed a consistently good designer and a not-as-good but more fan-friendly one to stick around, the series pauses for a reunion show, giving us one more look at designer Elisa Jimenez, our favorite cosmic ex-Dallas resident. 9 p.m., BRAVO
