McKesson Announces Managed Services Portfolio
With the increasing scarcity of healthcare information technology (HIT) resources coupled with the challenge of managing multifaceted projects, McKesson has introduced Horizon Managed Services™ — a continuum of innovative services designed to help hospitals realize and accelerate the value from their healthcare IT investments. These industry-leading capabilities include expertise for system design through implementation, ongoing system support, connectivity and remote hosting. In addition to enhancing service quality and reducing costs, Horizon Managed Services places advanced IT capabilities within reach of healthcare providers of all sizes.
Horizon Managed Services enables organizations to share responsibility for their IT projects with McKesson so they can redeploy internal resources to focus on their core competency of care delivery. In fact over the last 25 years, McKesson’s outsourcing services have helped more than 80 healthcare organizations achieve remarkable results in realizing time to value for IT investments. The newly released continuum of managed services includes:
Remote hosting with database and security management, disaster recovery and help desk services. Remote hosting services help organizations avoid the upfront capital costs and ongoing maintenance of large-scale systems and provide technical processing for a predictable monthly fee.
Accelerator services designed to speed up implementation and upgrade work. A health system on a tight roadmap with limited resources can benefit from a project based engagement designed to gain speed and ensure success.
Ongoing operational support that features continuous training, rollout and user support. Customers can utilize McKesson’s Center of Excellence to obtain trained resources and access to best practices. Hospitals undertaking broad based deployment efforts, such as computerized physician order entry (CPOE), may opt for an ongoing process re-engineering engagement.
McKesson will continue to offer full IT outsourcing for customers that desire a single point of accountability for their entire IT infrastructure. McKesson’s expertise in supporting more than 1,250 third party applications provides the experience to reduce the complexity and risk in large, heterogeneous IT environments.
“We are particularly excited about our new remote hosting offering, which provides customers with a world-class 24/7 data center to ensure mission critical application performance, customer support, security and disaster recovery,” said Duncan James, group president, Health Systems, McKesson Provider Technologies. “Horizon Managed Services provides a flexible delivery model for on-site resources, Center of Excellence support or shared sourcing.”
James added: “In today’s market, our customers are challenged with access to capital as well as finding experienced IT resources. It is difficult for a hospital or health system to take on advanced IT projects without prior experience. With the new managed services offering, McKesson is able to provide the experience and scale to help our customers reduce risks and accelerate results.”
