Bothwell Having Open House for Cath Lab
By Emily Jarrett, The Sedalia Democrat, Sedalia, Mo.
Feb. 22–Free cholesterol and blood glucose level screenings will be available Sunday at an open house Heart Extravaganza, hosted by Bothwell Regional Health Center.
“February is heart month and since our new Cath lab is opening, I thought an open house would be a great idea,” said Carol Tieman, community outreach coordinator for Bothwell.
The open house will include a tour of the new lab, cardiac rehab unit, stress test unit and dietary facility. Participants will also be able to see a video of a heart catheterization and have their blood pressure and pulse oxygen levels tested.
Cardiac physicians, exercise specialists and dietitians will be on hand to answer heart health questions and give demonstrations on healthy eating and heart-healthy recipes.
“Unfortunately, one in two people are drying from heart disease,” Tieman said. “It’s the number one killer, but by exercising and eating healthy, we can change that statistic.”
Information from the Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation and the American Heart Association on heart-health issues, including how to recognize the signs of a heart attack, will also be on display.
“We want to inspire and encourage people to get healthy and this is an excellent way to do that,” Tieman said.
The open house will take place at Bothwell from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
