WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Riverview Medical Center, located in Red Bank, N.J., has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying recently discharged patients from Riverview on their perceptions of their emergency room visit and comparing the results to the national benchmark established by the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study(SM).
The telephone-based research conducted among Riverview patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall hospital experience. These drivers, which were identified in the national study, include: speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.
"Based on the rigorous standards of our national hospital service performance research, only 20 percent of the hospitals in the nation will be qualified to achieve this distinction," said David Stefan, executive director of the healthcare division of J.D. Power and Associates. "Riverview Medical Center is among an elite class of hospitals."
Riverview Medical Center exceeded the national emergency department benchmark study score for patient satisfaction by a notable margin. In comparison to the national study, the Riverview Medical Center's emergency department performed well on providing patients with a comfortable experience, particularly with their concern for comfort during the blood drawing procedures. They also scored well with the nurses' concern about controlling pain, an important aspect of the overall experience.
In addition, Riverview Medical Center did well in the area of overall emotional support. In particular, it demonstrated its greatest difference from the national norm with respect to the confidence and trust in the venipuncture personnel's and nurses' skill level.
Patients were also asked to rate their level of trust and confidence in the hospital after their emergency department visit. Fifty-seven percent of patients indicate they have more or much more trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent visit. Furthermore, the proportion of patients who have much more trust and confidence in the hospital following their experience is notably higher among Riverview patients as compared to the patients of the norming study.
Non-government, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, emergency department, outpatient, and maternity services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
