New QualityHealth.Com Survey of 10,000 Americans Shows Deep Divide on Universal Healthcare

According to a new survey of more than 10,000 consumers conducted by QualityHealth.com, great disparities exist among Americans on the important matter of health care. Most notably, the survey shows Americans' willingness to pay more in taxes if it means that everyone has access to health care.
As the first installment in its "HealthOpin" poll series, QualityHealth.com polled its database of registered members between February 1 and February 4, collecting responses from 10,685 consumers interested in health matters. Survey respondents were 82.7 percent women and 17.3 percent men, and the majority of them were between the ages of 35 and 54. The survey's margin of error is +/- 3 percent. According to comScore, Inc., the global leader of measurement in the digital world, QualityHealth.com, with approximately 3.5 million unique visitors per month, ranks as the seventh most visited ad-supported health site on the Web.
Nearly 44 percent of respondents -- dominantly Boomer women -- chose Hillary Clinton as the candidate they thought would make the most improvements to the health care system, with 22 percent choosing Barack Obama and not quite 14 percent choosing John McCain.
Further, when asked if they would be willing to pay more taxes to ensure that everyone in the country could have access to health care, 51 percent of respondents said they would while nearly 49 percent said they would not.
Lastly, when asked which presidential candidate they would like to have as their doctor, Americans again leaned towards Mrs. Clinton, choosing her two to one over Mr. Obama; opinions were split among the Republican candidates. The full results:
Clinton: 40.36 percent
Obama: 19.43 percent
McCain: 15.91 percent
Huckabee: 10.78 percent
Others: 13.49 percent
"These robust survey results, focusing on the pivotal issue of health care in this year's election, show that consumers see vast differences in the positions of the candidates," said Helene Monat, CEO, Marketing Technology Solutions, the owner of QualityHealth.com. "These differences show that consumers are watching health care policy developments closely."
Out of the 51 percent of respondents saying they would pay more taxes to support universal health care, the greatest portion, 31 percent, said they were willing to pay up to 5 percent more, and 17 percent said they would be willing to pay up to 10 percent more in taxes. Two percent of respondents said they would pay up to 15 percent more. The full results: Would be willing to pay more in taxes: 51.39 percent; Would not be willing to pay more: 48.61 percent.
