Kate Hertzog’s book and Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County have something in common: lots of strong, determined women.

Hertzog’s “More Than Petticoats: Remarkable Pennsylvania Women” profiles women who broke through social, cultural or poltical barriers to make contributions to society. DVS helps thousands of women escape violence in the homes and make a new life for themselves and their children.

Hertzog will sign books while Michael C. Anthony from 101 The Rose broadcasts live 9-11 a.m., and Auction Inn collects items to benefit DVS 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 8, at Barnes & Noble Booksellers.

Auction Inn will load up donated items that it will sell on eBay on behalf of the nonprofit organization. Milzey Carrasco said musical instruments, vintage electronics and brand-name collectibles from NASCAR, Hummel and Longaberger earn the best prices online.

nLater that day, at 7 p.m. at the store, “Jane” author Don Devine will discuss and sign his Civil War novel, partially set in Lancaster County.

Connie Pombo, Marietta, is among the contributors to “I’m Glad I’m a Mom: Inspirational Stories of Love, Laughter, and Everyday Life,” a Hearts at Home book just released by Harvest House Publishers.

The book, edited by Jill Savage, founder of the Christian organization, has 50 author/moms, including former Lititz resident Liz Curtis Higgs, answering the question, “What do you do at home all day?”

All the stories showcase “the triumphs and trials of everyday moms.” Pombo’s story, “The Perfect Corsage,” is about trying at the last minute to scrounge a corsage for her son’s prom date.
