Integrative Health Technologies, Inc. (IHTI) Announces Independent Confirmation of Positive Effects of AlgaeCal Bone-Health Study
Posted on: Tuesday, 4 March 2008, 18:00 CST
Integrative Health Technologies (IHTI)(OTCBB:IHTI) announced today that it has received an independent confirmation of the positive effects the AlgaeCal Bone Health program had on bone mineral density (BMD) -- the most valid measurement of bone health. A total of 216 adult subjects participated in a six-month, two-group clinical trial. All subjects took either a basic or an enhanced version of the AlgaeCal capsules while following the same physical activity and health literacy plans. The study found that as opposed to an expected annual decrease in BMD, both study groups achieved significant improvements in their BMD. Subjects taking the enhanced version of AlgaeCal had greater gains in BMD than those taking the basic version, and highly compliant subjects in both groups had greater gains than less compliant subjects.
AlgaeCal's Bone Health program contains a plant-source form of calcium and was designed in response to the U.S. Surgeon General's "Call to Action" contained in the Bone Health Report. The report cited a USDA study finding that almost 85% of adolescent girls and 65% of boys weren't getting enough calcium and bone building nutrients to support normal bone growth at a time when 90% of their bone growth occurs. The report also cited an increasing number of aging adults who are deficient in bone-building nutrients. The SG concluded, "America's bone health is in jeopardy..." and that "...you are never too old or too young to improve your bone health." To address this problem, the Surgeon General challenged the healthcare community to develop bone-health plans to:
(1) improve nutrition,
(2) increase physical activity, and
(3) improve health literacy.
IHTI serves the healthcare and nutritional industry providing:
1) Research and development of health-enhancing products and technologies,
2) Independent clinical trials, and
3) On-site testing and marketing support of clinically validated products.
