Saffron Eases Misery of PMS
SAFFRON could be a new treatment for premenstrual syndrome.
Research shows women who took capsules twice a day containing the world’s most expensive spice experienced a major improvement in symptoms.
They reported better mood, fewer headaches and less bloating after six months of treatment.
It’s not clear how the delicate spice works but previous studies have suggested it is as effective as Prozac at treating depression, and may even have powerful anti-cancer properties.
Saffron comes from a type of crocus and it takes 75,000 flowers to make just one pound of the spice. One gramme can cost between Pounds 4 and Pounds 6.
PMS affects thousands of women and is thought to be linked with fluctuating hormone levels.
