DFW Partnership for Peak Health Care Performance Selects Data Aggregator for Diabetes Treatment Program
Posted on: Wednesday, 5 March 2008, 12:00 CST
DALLAS, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The DFW Partnership for Peak Health Care Performance, a collaborative program led by the Dallas-Fort Worth Business Group on Health (DFWBGH) to improve the quality and efficiency of care for chronic illnesses, announced today that it has selected a data aggregator to provide reports on physician-directed therapies in the treatment of diabetes. Austin Provider Solutions (APS) will manage the data for this collaborative program as well as report on the results.
"We're excited about this opportunity to standardize the performance measurement process across health plans, as this will eliminate a lot of the confusion in the marketplace about how health care quality is defined," said Marianne Fazen, PhD, executive director of the Dallas-Fort Worth Business Group on Health.
The DFW Partnership for Peak Health Care Performance (previously named the DFW Value Driven Health Care Collaborative) involves physicians, employers, health plans and patients in a community-wide initiative developed to improve health care quality and increase awareness of and compliance with recommended care for chronic diseases such as diabetes.
Austin Provider Solutions will receive processed summary data of diabetes-related medical claims submitted by DFW area physicians from the five participating health plans -- Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, CIGNA, Humana and UnitedHealthcare. APS will aggregate the summary data across all five health plans to produce a single set of health care performance ratings for each physician.
The Partnership for Peak Health Care Performance will share initial data from this process with physicians to provide feedback on their own performance in the treatment of diabetes. The Partnership will also use the data to develop and target programs, tools and resources to support physicians' efforts to improve the quality of diabetes care throughout the community. Later phases of this project will achieve transparency of performance quality data through standardized multi-plan public report cards which will provide consumers information on which to base health care decisions.
