Loma Linda University Medical Center Opens Doors to Its Online Health Library

Posted on: Thursday, 6 March 2008, 09:01 CST

World-renowned for its innovation, Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) chose A.D.A.M., Inc. (NASDAQ: ADAM), a leading provider of consumer healthcare information, to provide an extensive array of health content and imagery for the hospital's website. The partnership offers patients and community members a comprehensive platform for health and wellness information.

Extensive focus groups and analysis of patient feedback led LLUMC to conclude that there was a growing demand among its patients for quality health content. LLUMC's award-winning communications agency, Earthbound Media Group (EMG) took over from there, providing strategic, creative and development services to get the project launched with the highest quality content available. A.D.A.M.'s online health resources, which have won numerous awards including the 2007 eHealthcare Leadership Award for Best Health/Healthcare Content, are now embedded in the Health Library found in the LLUMC website at: http://lomalindahealth.org/health-library.

Visitors to the site, who have been broken down by demographic interests, can research illnesses, their associated symptoms and treatments, as well as articles on general wellness topics, all in English and Spanish. Additionally, patients can manage chronic conditions with online care guides, learn about procedures and identify ailments through a symptom navigator. The Health Library is filled with cross-referenced text, images and videos that make it easy for people to explore topics in depth. LLUMC also plans to link A.D.A.M.'s information and tools directly to the various hospital service lines and physician directory for quick and easy use. Powering the LLUMC A.D.A.M. deployment is a wealth of technologies that were implemented by EMG. These technologies include robust content management, a search appliance for searching through the Health Library and a sophisticated suite of web analytics software. These technologies allow LLUMC to track all user activity and to continually improve the user experience.

Prior to the partnership with A.D.A.M., LLUMC relied on varied sources of medical information for customers and patients -- including doctor's input and internally written medical documents. "With A.D.A.M., our patients and web visitors have access to one consistent source and receive information from one unified voice," said Tammy Veach, Executive Director of Marketing for LLUMC. "Empowered by the resources available now on our website, our patients now can have an informative dialogue with their doctors about their illness or diagnosis."

"We are excited to be aligned with an organization of such prestige as Loma Linda University Medical Center," said Kevin Noland, CEO for A.D.A.M. "We look forward to working with them as they continue to enhance the experience of their inpatients, outpatients and web visitors."
