MedImpact Earns URAC Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation From National Leader in Health Care Quality

Posted on: Thursday, 6 March 2008, 12:01 CST

MedImpact has successfully completed a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of its pharmacy benefit management program which earned them the URAC Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation. URAC is a nonprofit, national leader in promoting health care quality through its accreditation programs. The organization is a trusted and independent resource for monitoring the safety, effectiveness and service quality of pharmacy benefit management.

The URAC Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation is based on national standards that are the first to have ever been developed for the pharmacy benefit management industry. The standards were developed by more than 30 members of a multi-disciplinary committee. MedImpact was one of the original members of the committee and took an active role in helping to identify key benchmarks that promote industry best practices and encourage industry-wide quality improvement. Participating in the URAC accreditation program and completing the evaluation process is completely voluntary.

"For the past several years, MedImpact has been on a purposeful and focused quality journey," said Jerry Parker, senior vice president for MedImpact. "The URAC opportunity complemented our quality initiatives that build upon flawless fundamentals and service excellence. By earning the URAC Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation, MedImpact once again demonstrates its commitment to quality."

"Earning the accreditation highlights our focus and concern for patient safety and service," Parker continued. "In addition, the URAC process formally validates that our contract terms and processes are clear for our clients and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring consumers have access to the pharmacies they need. We are pleased to have this seal of approval for our partners, for our clients, and for the individual consumers that we serve together."

URAC currently offers 22 different accreditation and certification programs across the entire continuum of health care. These programs are designed to advance continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of health care management. The Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation addresses a wide array of quality measures and sets standards for everything from customer service and communications to patient safety and consumer empowerment. Only those organizations that meet the established standards receive accreditation.

"We applaud MedImpact on achieving URAC Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation," said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. "In today's health care market, URAC accreditation provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality health care."

"This accreditation provides a very important external validation of our excellence in pharmacy benefit management, and confirms our willingness to be accountable throughout all our operations," said Parker. "At MedImpact, we're focused on performance. The URAC program is just one of the many ways we show our commitment to delivering low net cost, high quality care and high consumer satisfaction. We're very proud to have earned this recognition from such an esteemed organization."
