Posted on: Thursday, 17 February 2005, 15:00 CST

The Methodist Wellness Center will offer a free Spirometry screening March 15. The screening will be from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Methodist Atrium at 900 W. Main St.

Spirometry is a pulmonary function test that determines the volume of air an individual can inhale and exhale during a specific time period. Spirometry is used to determine the causes of shortness of breath, to rule out obstructive diseases that block breathing or restrictive diseases that limit the expansion and capacity of the lungs.

This test is used most often to diagnose and monitor lung problems such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma.
