Colorado State Senator Keller Recognized for Advocacy Work on Mental Health Issues

WASHINGTON, March 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For her legislative accomplishments on mental health issues, Colorado State Senator Moe Keller (D) today received the 2008 State Legislator of the Year Award of the American Psychological Association Practice Organization (APAPO). Senator Keller was presented with the award in recognition of her advocacy work on mental health at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
"Senator Keller has been a champion of mental health rights and a strong supporter of mental health legislation over the past decade," says Martin Manosevitz, PhD, president of the Colorado Psychological Association.

Over the years, Senator Keller has been a primary sponsor of legislation directly benefiting psychologists working in Colorado as well as Colorado residents in need of mental health services. Specifically, Senator Keller helped pass state legislation on mental health parity, which seeks to ensure that insurance companies provide equal coverage to mental and physical health conditions.

Senator Keller has served as state representative for Colorado District 20 for the last five years. She is a member of the District's Joint Budget Committee. Prior to her tenure in the Colorado State Senate, Senator Keller worked for twenty years in the Jefferson County and Denver public school systems.
Since 2002, APAPO's State Legislator of the Year Award has been presented annually to a state legislator who has prominently championed the goals of professional psychology.
