A New Plan to Expand Health Care Access in America for People Who Can't Find a Doctor to Care for Them

WASHINGTON, March 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, March 12, at 10:00 am, Representatives from Community Health Centers will brief Congressional staff on a bold new plan to bring primary health care services to 30 million people by the year 2015. The ACCESS for All America plan is being launched as 56 million people in urban and rural communities are struggling without basic access to health care. Many of these "medically disenfranchised" people in America have an insurance card, just no place to go for health care largely because of a growing lack of primary care doctors.
The Congressional staff briefing, hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and open to the media, will coincide with the release of a new report from NACHC and Capital Link, and Community Health Ventures, entitled ACCESS CAPITAL: New Opportunities for Meeting America's Primary Care Infrastructure Needs. The report will show how an innovative effort in health care infrastructure financing will help to launch the ACCESS plan that will help the estimated one in five Americans who can't find a doctor to care for them today, while generating up to $41 billion in cost savings to patients, communities, insurers, and taxpayers tomorrow. Release of the ACCESS plan comes as thousands of health center professionals from across the nation -- including clinicians, board members, and executives -- convene in Washington for the 2008 NACHC Policy and Issues Forum.
