GelStat Migraine Receives Five Star Rating on About.Com Headaches & Migraine Site
Posted on: Wednesday, 23 February 2005, 09:00 CST
MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GelStat Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: GSAC) today announced that GelStat(TM) Migraine has been awarded a five star rating (best possible) by Teri Robert, Ph.D., expert guide for the About.com Headaches & Migraine site.
"Nothing I'd ever tried had lived up to its claims and hype ... until I tried GelStat Migraine," said Dr. Robert. "I admit that I was prepared for it to taste nasty and do nothing, and I have to admit to being wrong. I feel it's important that those with migraine be made aware of this new medication. GelStat Migraine has positively impacted my life. It has provided me with better success than I've ever had with an OTC product."
Teri Robert, Ph.D. is a widely-known health writer, migraine expert and patient advocate. She was awarded the prestigious "Patient Partners Award" by the National Headache Foundation in 2004 for her outstanding work in journalism, patient advocacy and education on behalf of migraine sufferers.
"Our goal for 2005 is very simple: to become recognized as the most effective OTC medication available for the treatment of migraine and severe headaches," said Stephen Roberts, M.D., chairman and chief executive of GelStat.
The Headaches & Migraine Site on the About.com network is one of the most frequently accessed sources of migraine and headache information on the Internet, with an estimated 400,000 visitors each month. Dr. Teri Robert's book, "Living Well With Migraine Disease and Headaches: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You ... That You Need To Know" will be published by HarperCollins in the Fall of 2005.
"Over 90 percent of 32 million Americans with migraine include OTC products in their treatment, and nearly 60 percent rely exclusively on OTC products," said Richard Ringold, vice president of GelStat. "We believe GelStat Migraine represents a vastly superior alternative for U.S. consumers who at present spend $2.6 billion each year on OTC headache pain relievers that are slow acting, side effect laden and generally ineffective for migraine and severe headaches."
GelStat Migraine recently was recognized by the non-profit National Migraine Association "MAGNUM" as "the first migraine abortive available without a prescription." An abortive medication is defined as one that acts to stop migraine at its source. Older OTC medications are generally mild analgesics that seek only to mask pain. Often ineffective, their overuse can lead to rebound headaches and chronic daily headache.
"I tend to be skeptical of new products, particularity OTC ones," said Paul Rosen, M.D. a New York City family physician. "But I started trying GelStat Migraine on a number of patients and found that many had a very positive response, including some for whom nothing else seemed to work. Clearly, this product has great potential."

About GelStat Migraine
GelStat Migraine is a new, patent pending OTC medication for acute relief from the pain and associated symptoms of migraine and migraine-like headaches. In general, older OTC headache medications are based on aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with these agents estimated to exhibit an effect in approximately 25 percent of those with moderate to severe migraine.
The initial clinical trial of GelStat Migraine showed it to be effective for 83 percent of those with moderate to severe migraine. Further details regarding this initial clinical trial are available on the Company's website (http://www.gelstat.com/)
About GelStat Corporation
GelStat Corporation is a consumer health care company dedicated to the cost-effective development and marketing of advanced OTC health care products. Development efforts are focused on very large markets where GelStat products can offer improved efficacy, safety, and/or convenience over existing OTCs.
The Company has initiated early marketing efforts for "GelStat(TM) Arthritis", "GelStat(TM) Sinus" and "GelStat(TM) Sleep", and believes that each of these products performs well and is effective for its intended use. Between 40 and 70 million Americans have some form of arthritis according to the National Institutes of Health. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease estimates that 37 million Americans are affected by sinusitis every year, with at least 20 million more suffering from allergies. Approximately 70 million Americans are reported to be "problem sleepers".
The Company has recently completed a transaction with DTLL, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: DTLI) whereby GelStat has obtained approximately 94% ownership of DTLL in exchange for having granted DTLL a license to develop prescription drug applications of the Company's intellectual property. Activities of DTLL (expected to be renamed GS Pharma, Inc.) will be limited exclusively to the development of new prescription drugs, which fall outside of GelStat's OTC business model. In particular, management anticipates undertaking the development of a prescription drug for the treatment of asthma and perhaps other inflammatory conditions. Asthma shares certain characteristics with migraine, being a condition related to acute exacerbations of inflammation. GelStat shareholders presently own approximately one share of DTLL for each share of GelStat, and thus participate in expected future commercialization of these prescription products, without having assumed any risk. GelStat will continue to focus exclusively on OTC health care products. DTLL (expected to be renamed GS Pharma, Inc.) will focus exclusively on prescription health care products. The Company may distribute all or some portion of the DTLL shares at some future time.
