Newbold-White Has Seeds for Sale

PERQUIMANS COUNTY | The Newbold-White House has a collection of heirloom seeds from the Colonial Kitchen Garden for sale in the Visitors Center.

Seed choices include Egyptian walking onion bulbs, black-eyed peas, seminole pumpkins and coneflowers. Other seeds will be available soon.

All proceeds support the Colonial Kitchen Garden.

Currituck County

Biofuels program is Wednesday

The Currituck County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will hold a biofuels program at 6:30 p.m. Wednes-day at the extension office, 120 Community Way in Barco.

North Carolina State University extension specialists will speak on how biofuels will affect the future of North Carolina agriculture and how residents will be able to use these alternative fuels.

Health training to be held March 31

The Healthy Carolinians of the Albemarle chronic disease subcommittee will host a “Know Your Numbers” training from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 31 in the Currituck County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Barco.

The training is targeted for churches and community groups and will equip lay health advisers with up-to-date health information. Practicing or retired nurses, doctors, paramedics or anyone interested in their health is invited to attend.

Dare County

commissioners meeting will re-air

The Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting held March 17 will be re-broadcast because of problems with the initial airing.

The program will be aired at noon and 7 p.m. today and Monday on Channel 20.

Gates County

Historical society will hold meeting

The Gates County Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Old Gates County Courthouse, Godwin Courtroom.

Marvin T. Jones will speak on the more than 400-year-old history of black people in northeastern North Carolina.

Pasquotank County

4-H SUMMER CAMP SIGN-UPS SET

Pasquotank County 4-H Summer Camp is taking registrations for the 2008 summer camp that will be held at the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center in Reidsville.

The camp is open to ages 8 to 14. Camp dates are June 29-July 4, and the cost is $340 with a $100 non refundable deposit. The camp offers horseback riding, archery, canoeing, swimming, outdoor living and creative arts.

Church to hold music event

New Hope Assembly of God will hold a Come & Sing to Jesus event at 7 p.m. March 29 at 113 Deep Creek Road, Durant’s Neck.

The evening will showcase local talent. Bring your musical instrument. Nursery will be provided.

Good Citizens named by DAR

The Betsy Dowdy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized the local 2007- 08 high school Good Citizens .

A senior who has qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism was selected from each high school.

School winners – who received certificates and pins – were Angeleah Olivia Smith, Albemarle School; Gabrielle Theresa Turmelle, Camden High ; Timothy John Vinick, Currituck County High ; Genelle Senait Bond, Gates County High ; and Christopher Allen Fightmaster, Pasquotank County High .

The area winner was Lydia Jayne Harrell of Northeastern High School.

Society to hold conference

Virginia Beach Genealogical Society will hold its Dig in Your Roots annual conference from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 29 at Virginia Beach Central Library.
