Posted on: Monday, 28 February 2005, 09:00 CST
Life Time Fitness, Inc. (NYSE:LTM), a national operator of large and distinctive health and fitness centers, today announced that the internationally renowned 2005 Life Time Fitness Triathlon is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 16, 2005, beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CDT) in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Continuing with its history making tradition, the Event will be broadcast the same day nationally on NBC Sports from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. (CDT). Additionally, the Triathlon will once again offer the largest cash purse in the history of the sport at $500,000.
Adding drama to the Event, the Professional Division incorporates a unique timing format that allows world-class professional women and men to compete on equal ground. Based upon past Life Time Fitness Triathlon course results, along with results from a number of international-distance events worldwide, this timing structure allows the professional women to start ahead of the professional men by a predetermined amount of time, resulting in a new and innovative competition structure, and an exciting race to the finish.
In addition to the professional division, more than 2,500 amateur triathletes from around the world are expected to participate.
The 2005 Life Time Fitness Triathlon will feature an Olympic distance - 1.5k swim, 40k bike and a 10k run - on a beautiful course through the Twin Cities. The Event also will offer a short distance - .4-mile swim, 15-mile bike and a three-mile run.
Participants in the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon represented 40 states and 16 countries. 2004 Olympic silver medalist, Loretta Harrop of Australia, was the first-place finisher with a time of 1:57:58, beating the top male finisher, Craig Walton of Australia, by 2:44.
The Life Time Fitness Triathlon is a part of the Minneapolis Aquatennial, a ten-day, 66-year-old premier Twin Cities civic celebration that hosts more than 800,000 visitors annually.
