CRI Worldwide, Inc., a leading provider of clinical research services to the global pharmaceutical and biotech industry, has announced a major expansion of its Kirkbride Division. The facility is housed within the Kirkbride Center, an acute care psychiatric hospital located in West Philadelphia near the University of Pennsylvania. The newly renovated clinical research center nearly quadruples CRI’s previous space, and allows the firm to conduct both inpatient and outpatient clinical trials, from early stage through late stage, at one state-of-the-art facility.

“The expansion of Kirkbride allows CRI Worldwide to have some of the greatest research scientists all working collaboratively under one roof,” said Dr. Howard Hassman, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, CRI Worldwide. “The expanded, modernized facility provides a superior environment for CRI to perform Phase I-IV clinical trials — both inpatient and outpatient — and to more effectively meet patient, client and sponsor needs.”

Kirkbride Center is the first psychiatric hospital in the US. The expansion of CRI at Kirkbride significantly increases clinical capacity, and features a new laboratory, exam rooms, patient consent rooms, inpatient clinical support, conference rooms, storage areas, a well-appointed waiting room, physicians’ offices, and an atrium garden. Six physicians, including MDs, DOs and PhDs — all with well recognized central nervous system expertise ranging from pain to psychiatric disorders — will serve on the staff in a full-time capacity.

“With its outstanding access to a dense patient population, industry leading investigators, proximity to leading clinical talent, and recognized excellence in clinical quality, CRI’s Kirkbride Division is one of our premier research centers,” said Ken King, President and Chief Executive Officer, CRI Worldwide.

The transition to the new facility at CRI at Kirkbride Center was completed in February 2008.
