Clinical Data, Inc. Chairman and PGxHealth Senior Vice President to Present to the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine

Posted on: Friday, 4 April 2008, 12:00 CDT

Clinical Data, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLDA), a leader in the development of targeted therapeutics and predictive tests from its growing portfolio of proprietary genetic biomarkers, announced today that Chairman Randal J. Kirk and Meeta Patnaik, Senior Vice President of PGxHealth, will present at The Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine's symposium: Progress in Pharmacogenomics and Its Promise for Medicine from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the San Diego Convention Center, Ballroom 20A, at 111 West Harbor Drive. Clinical Data's PGxHealth division focuses on the use of genetic biomarkers associated with drug response to guide physicians and patients to the drug or drug class that is most likely to be effective. The session will be co-chaired by Clinical Data, Inc. board member Burton E. Sobel of the University of Vermont.

Mr. Kirk and Dr. Patnaik will participate on a panel addressing how pharmacogenomics is being and will be used to manage patient care by helping identify patients that will respond better, have less side effects and toxic effects, and exclude those at risk of adverse drug reactions to specific therapies, among other topics. Mr. Kirk's presentation will be titled "Implications of Pharmacogenomics for Drug Development." Dr. Patnaik's presentation is titled "Applications of Pharmacogenomics In the Use of Psychotropic Drugs."

Both Mr. Kirk and Dr. Patnaik will be speaking on pharmacogenomics and its capabilities in genetic biomarker identification and validation to develop and commercialize novel genetic tests leading to safer and more efficacious therapeutics. Dr. Patnaik will use specific examples in the areas of schizophrenia, bipolar disease, and epilepsy to illustrate the power of pharmacogenetic tests to identify patients at risk for potentially fatal adverse drug reactions. The panel presentations will be captured for publication in the Society's journal, Experimental Biology and Medicine.

About the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine

Founded in 1903, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (SEBM) is a not-for-profit scientific society formed to promote investigation in the biomedical sciences by encouraging and facilitating interchange of scientific information among disciplines. The principal means for achieving this purpose are the publication of a peer-reviewed journal, Experimental Biology and Medicine, and support of regional and national meetings. The Society also fosters the career development of students and new investigators. SEBM has over 1,300 members worldwide; the majority of whom have their doctoral degrees and are actively engaged in various fields of biomedical research. Membership dues include a subscription to EBM (online and print). Visit the The Society for Experimental Biology and Medecine website at www.sebm.org for more information.
