Glen Burnie West; Event to Shower Gifts on Hospital Stork’s Nest Program

The Women of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church will host a baby shower for the Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s Stork’s Nest program at noon on April 13 at the church at the corner of First Avenue and A Street S.W.

The Rev. Cindy Mainolfi, who is not expecting, will open all of the gifts. Men are also welcome to attend.

Requested gift items include: baby toiletries, diapers, diaper bags, baby wipes, bottle brushes, health care sets, carriers or Snugglies, rattles, digital thermometers, hooded baby towels, car seats, umbrella strollers or other small strollers. A freewill offering will be available to anyone who would like to participate, but does not have time to shop.

Punch, cake and finger sandwiches will be served.

The Stork’s Nest program encourages pregnant women to seek good pre-natal health care.

Bus trip

The Glen Burnie Lions Club will host a bus trip to the Philadelphia Park casino in Pennsylvania on May 31.

The cost of the trip is $25; participants will receive $20 back in free play vouchers, as well as a $3 coupon toward food.

The bus will leave the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 7606 Quarterfield Road, at 11 a.m. and return at 8:30 p.m.

Pascal Senior Center

Members and their guests at the Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road, are heading outdoors with the arrival of springtime.

They will be walking at 9:30 a.m. every Monday. The walks will follow along the Sawmill Creek Park trail and BWI Extension Trail and will be led by center member Gary Hedges.

Also, center members will be taking leisurely bicycle rides every Thursday morning. Center member Bob Singleton is organizing the trips. For an itinerary, e-mail Mr. Singleton at rtiffanys@verizon.net.

The Pascal Seniors Inc. is selling raffle tickets for a machine- embroidered Covered Bridge Quilt. The quilt was stitched by center member Beatrice Hartley.

The tickets are $2 each or $5 for three. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn on April 15.

The film “Door to Door” will be shown at 12:15 p.m. Friday. The movie is based on a true story about a man with cerebral palsy who doesn’t let his physical disability keep him from reaching his goals There is no charge to watch the movie.

NARFE meeting

Glen Burnie Chapter 1519 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees association will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church hall, 7436 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.

Gerald Richards, the owner of Richards Forensic Services will be the guest speaker.

All current and retired federal employees and their spouses are welcome to attend the meeting to learn about legislative issues at the state and federal levels and federal retirement plans.

John Norfolk will lead a sing-along at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Glen Square Senior Nutrition program site, 102 Crain Highway N.W.

GBIA meeting

The Glen Burnie Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the association hall, 19 Crain Highway, S.E.

The association is continuing its centennial celebration. One lucky member’s name will be drawn for a gift basket valued at over $150. The member must be present to win.

The Ferndale United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ethel Schmidt meeting room, located on the lower level of the church, 117 Ferndale Road.

The Deborah Circle of the United Methodist Women at Glen Burnie United Methodist Church will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, 5 Second Ave. S.E.

The Sarah Circle will meet at 9:30 a.m. on April 12 at the church. Women with young children, expectant mothers and newlyweds are invited to attend. Nursery care will be provided.

All women are welcome. Members do not have to belong to the congregation.

The United Methodist Women gather for devotionals, fellowship and to raise funds for church missions.

Coin club meeting

The South Glen Burnie Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 160, located at 2597 Dorsey Road.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a preview of auction items. Coin dealers will set up exhibits. Meeting activities include a coin auction and a raffle. Door prizes will be awarded.

American Legion

Mother’s Day ideas

Now that April is here, it’s not too early to think about plans for Mother’s Day.

The Community Advocates for Senior Opportunities and Services operates a consignment store on the first floor of the Arundel Center North, 101 Crain Highway N.E. in the Glen Burnie Town Center.

The CASOS store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. All of the merchandise is handmade by senior citizens. Merchandise includes hand-crocheted baby clothes and blankets, flower arrangements and clothing accessories, such as women’s scarves.

Proceeds help local senior citizens and the senior emergency fund.

CASOS is selling tickets for its annual Salute to Seniors annual luncheon on May 13 at La Fontaine Bleue, 7514 Ritchie Highway. Tickets are $20.
