University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center Activates Sunrise Ambulatory Care, On-Time and On-Budget

Eclipsys Corporation®, (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center (UKCMC) completed a successful activation of Sunrise Ambulatory Care™ at two of its clinics. This is the first step towards implementing an electronic medical record at all of its clinics to fully connect its inpatient and outpatient facilities on the same Eclipsys clinical platform. UKCMC, consistently ranked as one of the nation's best hospitals, is already utilizing Eclipsys Sunrise Acute Care™ to help improve care delivery at its inpatient facility.
With Sunrise Ambulatory Care now live, UKCMC clinicians at its Bluegrass High Risk Obstetrics Clinic and North Fork Valley Community Health Center have instant access - from their home, office, clinics and other locations across the healthcare organization - to a concise overview of a patient's previous visits. Additionally, the display board of Sunrise Ambulatory Care, which tracks the status of the clinic's patients, has helped improve workflows and communications between staff and physicians, improving both coordination of care and the patient experience.
"We have had tremendous success with Eclipsys Sunrise Acute Care, achieving near 100-percent physician adoption for computerized physician order entry (CPOE), and we are excited that the first phase of our ambulatory implementation went so smoothly," said Carol Steltenkamp, MD, chief medical information officer, University of Kentucky. "Having our inpatient and outpatient clinics on the same platform gives our providers a superior user experience as they only have to learn one user interface."
Prescription Writer and ePrescribing Help Improve Medication Ordering Process
UKCMC is also using Eclipsys' Prescription Writer to help make prescribing medications safer, more efficient and easier for order reconciliation. Prescription Writer provides UKCMC with expert clinical decision support as physicians write prescriptions to help ensure safe, informed prescribing.
University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center is also using the ePrescribing capabilities of Sunrise Ambulatory Care to electronically send prescriptions for its patients. By eliminating all paper associated with prescription ordering, UKCMC has made the ordering process much safer and more efficient.
Added Steltenkamp, "We are very excited about our new ePrescribing capabilities, as we have virtually eliminated all of the headaches associated with the paper process such as repeated call backs and faxes from the Pharmacy, while improving patient safety and our reporting capabilities."
"Eclipsys clients continue to see the benefit of increased user adoption and costs savings from having their inpatient and outpatient facilities on Sunrise Clinical Manager," said Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president of Client Solutions. "The dedication of the UKCMC team was critical in making this project such a success. We look forward to continued close collaboration as we activate Sunrise Ambulatory Care at more of its clinics and help drive outcome improvements across its enterprise."
