Wake Forest Medical Center Implements Central Logic's Patient Transfer Software

Posted on: Monday, 21 April 2008, 06:00 CDT

Central Logic Healthcare Systems (www.centrallogic.com) announces today that Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. has implemented Central Logic's patient transfer center software, ForeFront Transfer™.

ForeFront Transfer will be used to streamline interfacility patient transfers, facilitate critical transfer information for physicians and hospital administrative personnel, and ensure an accurate and up-to-date accounting of bed vacancies in conjunction with their Patient Logistics and Admissions Center. This will also enable hospital and medical staff to take physician referral calls and correlate patient admission, enabling quick, accurate decisions based on individual patients' needs, doctor and service availability and the facility's ability to accommodate each new patient.

"For the past 15-20 years our Physician's Access Line (PAL) served as our preferred channel of patient transfers/admissions," said Jonathan Morris, Associate Director for the Patient Logistics and Admission Center at Wake Forest. "It has since grown and we would like it to do much more. ForeFront Transfer will allow us to screen and provision patients during the admission/transfer process."

In some cases, patients have been admitted to the hospital through avenues other than the current admission/transfer process. Tracking these patients can prove difficult and sometimes require additional effort just to ensure all necessary paperwork has been completed to initiate patient care immediately upon arrival.

"With the help of Central Logic, and our implementation of a centralized admission/transfer Patient Logistics and Admission Center, we will be able to minimize the various backdoor methods and channel all transfer admissions through our ADT (Admission Discharge Transfer) system," Morris said. "Additionally, we have uploaded the past 5 years of patient information from our ADT system interface into ForeFront Transfer, which will create workflow efficiencies with patients who have a history with the medical center."

The Wake Forest Baptist Patient Logistics and Admission Center receives approximately 100 admissions per day -- approximately 75 percent of which are unscheduled/emergent admissions and transfers. Having the ForeFront Transfer software in place now gives the nurses who are taking the calls immediate information on patient's history at the Medical Center, while assessing their current medical needs with the physician as well as previous health history. This also allows the nurse to simultaneously assess patient's level of care requirement and match with current and anticipated bed availability. This will reduce the time spent on each call and other internal processes to only a few minutes in order to expedite the transfer to the Medical Center.

Central Logic's ForeFront Transfer™ is available immediately. Readers can get more information by calling 1-877-564-4870 or by visiting Central Logic's Web site at www.centrallogic.com. To schedule a demonstration of ForeFront Transfer™ please e-mail a request to sales@centrallogic.com.
