HMA Hospitals Selects IntelliDOT System to Eliminate Medication Errors

Posted on: Tuesday, 29 April 2008, 09:01 CDT

IntelliDOT, a provider of wireless handheld and barcode point-of-care solutions, has implemented Care System at ten additional Health Management Associates hospitals.

Health Management Associates (HMA) contracted with IntelliDOT in August 2006 to bring barcode verification of medications to 55 HMA hospitals located throughout the southeast US and Washington State over a period of three years.

The IntelliDOT System helps eliminate medication errors by matching the correct patient with the correct medication and method of delivery at the bedside. At only 8 oz. and packing a 12-hour battery life, the nurse-friendly CAREt Handheld device is easily carried for the entire shift by the clinician.

The handheld provides the caregiver with information anywhere in the facility while collecting critical information at the point-of-care. The medication administration system interconnects with the Hospital Information System (HIS) and other IntelliDOT modules designed to expand the bedside safety net to vital signs collection, laboratory specimen identification, mother-baby breast milk matching, and blood product administration.
