Medical Simulation Corporation to Introduce Moderate Sedation Training Program at the National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition
DENVER, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Simulation Corporation (MSC) will launch a new, comprehensive Moderate Sedation Program at the country's premier nursing conference, the National Teaching Institute (NTI) and Critical Care Exposition, May 3-8, in Chicago, Illinois. Well-known for its cardiovascular and peripheral vascular curriculum, MSC is introducing the Moderate Sedation Program as the first offering in a full menu of training solutions that address current national quality and patient safety initiatives.
During moderate sedation, sedative and analgesic medications are used to diminish patient anxiety and discomfort in order to facilitate certain diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The patient does not lose consciousness and maintains an open airway and spontaneous breathing. Many procedures that used to be performed with general anesthesia or sedation by an anesthesiologist, including colonoscopy, cardiac catheterization, minor surgery and some dental procedures, are now frequently performed with moderate sedation.
The MSC Moderate Sedation Program not only educates participants on the general guidelines surrounding the use of moderate sedation, but also incorporates simulation using a lifelike human patient simulator that allows participants to practice airway management and decision-making skills during example case scenarios. MSC has designed multiple training options to meet the needs of different healthcare teams, and the program allows hospital educators to customize course content to match their facilities' specific policies and procedures regarding the administration of moderate sedation.
