Powwow Set to Benefit Children’s Mental Health
The Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa and the Tulsa Children’s Behavioral Health Community Team will be sponsoring a powwow in observance of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.
The Restoring Harmony Pow Wow is scheduled for noon to 10 p.m. May 10 at Webster High School, 1919 W. 40th St. It is free and open to the public.
The powwow is meant to honor youths and address mental health stigmas in a manner celebrating the richness of the Tulsa community, while educating the community on mental health needs and available treatments.
Dancing begins at noon in the old gymnasium, and the festivities offer something for all ages including a number of contests and activities, dancing, art, raffles and door prizes.
Exhibits and activities are scheduled for both inside and outside the gym, and local mental health and youth service agencies plan to attend and distribute information about their programs.
