Dear Mirror: To the Point: Alzheimer’s Disease

MY life has been affected by dementia and I was stunned at guidance issued by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence which will deny thousands of people with Alzheimer’s disease the only drug treatments available to them.

The simple fact is that NICE doesn’t think people with Alzheimer’s are worth spending money on.

What value do we place on being able to remember the names of our children?

How much is ‘too much’ to allow someone to go to the toilet unaided or eat a meal without help?

Are we prepared to deny people their dignity when faced with dementia?
