The Palm Beach County High School Seniors All-Star Basketball Classic is Friday at the FAU gym in Boca Raton. The Boca Hoops Travel Squads will play during half-time. Girls' game starts at 7 p.m.; boys at 8:30 p.m. Cost: $5 adults, $3 children. Free admission for those wearing Boca Hoops apparel. Proceeds benefit Boca Hoops youth basketball.
Willie Shelton of Lake Park finished second in the 55-meter dash at the Dort College track meet. An athlete for Dana College in Blair, Neb., Shelton set a personal best at 6.58 seconds. He also finished 12th in the 200-meter dash.
Benefit Golf tourney: Place of Hope's annual Golf Classic and Charity auction will be May 1-2 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Spa in Jupiter. The event is limited to 18 foursomes and will feature a breakfast and awards luncheon at the tournament on May 2 and a dinner and silent auction on May 1. All proceeds benefit Place of Hope, a faith-based nonprofit organization that cares for local foster children. Sponsorships are needed. (561) 775-7195.
Spring Break basketball clinic: For ages 5-14, Monday-Friday. Times vary by age division. Cost: $50 residents, $60 nonresidents. Call (561) 630-1117.
Palm Beach Gardens Recreation, 4404 Burns Road, offers a variety of activities, including youth soccer clinic, men's older than 30 soccer, 7 vs. 7 coed soccer, adult flag football, ultimate Frisbee, slow-pitch coed softball, men's softball, yoga and volleyball. Call (561) 630-1100.
New programs: Palm Beach Gardens Recreation's newest programs include tai chi, Pilates, Fit Fun for 50 and older, men's basketball, karate for 6 years and older, gymnastics for ages 3 and older, skate park skate lessons, micro soccer, coed lacrosse for third- and fourth-graders and salsa dancing. Weight training: Four-week weight-training sessions for women take place throughout the year, 8-9 a.m. or 10:30 -11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, at the Burns Road Community Center, 4404 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens.
