American Medical Systems Announces GreenLight Laser Therapy Events at AUA 2008 in Orlando

Posted on: Thursday, 1 May 2008, 18:00 CDT

American Medical Systems, Inc. (AMS) Prostate Health Division today announced its schedule of events at the upcoming 2008 American Urology Association Annual Meeting, May 17-22 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Among the company's event highlights will be in-depth booth presentations by three leading urologists on the use of AMS' GreenLight™ Laser Therapy High Performance System (HPS), as well as hands-on wet-lab training opportunities that will enable hundreds of physicians to experience the GreenLight laser.

American Medical Systems is recognized as a global leader in men's and women's pelvic health technologies. Its GreenLight Laser Therapy device, now also available as GreenLight HPS™ (High Performance System), is a minimally invasive outpatient treatment option for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) that combines the effectiveness of traditional Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) with fewer side effects.

Clinical Presentations

Throughout the day Wednesday, May 21 in Room 414 AB, various independent medical researchers from across the U.S. and around the world will present a record number twenty research studies on topics related to GreenLight. The works include comparative and performance evaluations using randomized populations, multi-center sites and long-term data. Several studies examine high-risk patients, while others examine the efficiency of newer technologies such as AMS' GreenLight HPS™ (120W) laser system.

Physician Presentations on GreenLight Procedures

Daily throughout the AUA conference, in-booth presentations will be made at the AMS exhibit, Booth 1413. Covering techniques and data-driven results for the GreenLight HPS system, the topics and presenting physicians will include:

"GreenLight for Complicated Cases; Large Median Lobe, Anti-Coagulated Patients, and Previous Surgical Treatment Patients" by Mahmood Hai MD, a urologist in private practice in Westland Michigan and a pioneer in the use of GreenLight for BPH.

"Advanced GreenLight PVP for Large Glands" by Ricardo Gonzalez MD, attending urological surgeon at Methodist Hospital in Houston and part of the clinical faculty at the Baylor College of Medicine.

"GreenLight as a First Line Treatment" by Gregg Eure MD, FACS, a urologist in private practice in Tidewater, Virginia and Assistant Professor of Urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Wet-Lab Physician Training

Throughout each day of the conference, AMS will also conduct in-booth wet-lab training for physicians on the GreenLight HPS device. Each 15-minute lab will allow four physicians to practice on the GreenLight HPS, with walk-ins welcome. Over 400 physicians participated in the wet lab at the 2007 conference, with more expected this year.

Gold Sponsor

American Medical Systems is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2008 AUA Annual Meeting. The company is furnishing grant funding for a CME course and satellite symposium during the conference.

About American Medical Systems:

American Medical Systems, headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota, is a diversified supplier of medical devices and procedures to cure erectile dysfunction, benign prostate hyperplasia, incontinence, menorrhagia, prolapse and other pelvic disorders in men and women. These disorders can significantly diminish one's quality of life and profoundly affect social relationships. In recent years, the number of people seeking treatment has increased markedly as a result of longer lives, higher-quality-of-life expectations and greater awareness of new treatment alternatives. American Medical Systems' products reduce or eliminate the incapacitating effects of these diseases, often through minimally invasive therapies. AMS' products were used to treat approximately 240,000 patients in 2006.
