According to news.gov.hk: Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow has called on people, particularly children, to maintain good hygiene as Hong Kong has entered the peak season for enteroviral infections and cases may rise in the coming weeks. He told reporters after opening the Hospital Authority Convention 2008 today the peak season for enterovirus infections usually starts in May and ends July or August. Hong Kong has recorded 10 enteroviral infections so far this year, higher than the same period in recent years. He said enteroviral infections have been on the rise on the Mainland and neighbouring countries with a few thousand cases recorded in Singapore and Taiwan. However, there is no evidence the virus is more virulent. Parents, schools and nurseries must ensure children, particularly those aged six or below, follow good hygiene practices to avoid contracting the disease. For more health tips click here. The Centre for Health Protection will monitor the situation closely with the Hospital Authority and announce any new cases immediately. If outbreaks are detected the centrecan advise schools to suspend classes and isolate affected children.
