MORE than one in four women in Wales are doing no exercise, putting them at risk of cancer, experts claim.

New research by Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life said the worrying results illustrate how women’s lifestyle choices are increasing their cancer risk.

The survey revealed that less than a quarter of Welsh women are doing the recommended levels of exercise, despite the fact that almost half know that taking regular exercise can reduce their risk of some cancers.

Almost three fifths of women asked thought they were overweight or obese – excess body weight can substantially increase the likelihood of the disease. On diet – linked to a third of all cancers – less than a quarter of women in Wales eat five or more portions of fruit and vegetables every day.
