CRI Worldwide Opens Center for the Research of Pain Disorders in Philadelphia

CRI Worldwide, Inc., a leading provider of clinical research services to the global pharmaceutical and biotech industry, has announced the opening of its Center for the Research of Pain Disorders, based at the company's state-of-the-art clinical research facility at the Kirkbride Center in Philadelphia. The Center for the Research of Pain Disorders will be led by Daniel Gruener, MD, a recognized expert in the areas of analgesic and neuropathic pain research.

"The recent expansion of the Kirkbride Center provides the ideal setting to allow Dr. Gruener and his highly knowledgeable clinical staff to deepen CRI's commitment to understanding chronic and acute pain, pain management, and to supporting the emerging technologies in these areas."

CRI's Center for the Research of Pain Disorders will conduct Phase I through Phase IV inpatient and outpatient clinical trial services, with specific expertise in bioequivalence, bioavailability, PK/PD studies, cardiac safety (QTc), and proof of concept work. The Center's staff has conducted more than 100 clinical trials, including extensive experience in neuropathic pain, post hepatic neuralgia back pain and fibromyalgia.

Daniel Gruener, MD is Board Certified in Pain Medicine and Psychiatry, with more than 20 years of experience researching analgesics, pain management models, and emerging technologies aimed at resolving chronic pain. Dr. Gruener has extensive experience as a teacher, practitioner and writer in the fields of acute and chronic pain, as well as pain management and psychiatry.

Dr. Gruener currently serves as President of the Greater Philadelphia Pain Society, the Mid-Atlantic branch of the American Pain Society, and has edited the Society's publication, Pain Control in the Hospital. He recently coauthored the textbook Cognitive Therapy with Chronic Pain Patients with Dr. Aaron Beck of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Gruener completed his training at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
