Chesterfield, Heights Seeking Foster Parents
The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking foster parents. An informational meeting for those who want to learn about becoming a foster parent will be held May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Smith-Wagner Building, 9501 Lucy Corr Circle.
During the meeting, social-services staff members will provide an overview of foster care and will answer questions about the program.
Social services provides prospective foster parents with comprehensive training before they begin caring for children. There are many supports available to foster parents, such as paid day care, state Medicaid for medical expenses and a monthly stipend for room and board, clothing and other related expenses.

Hanover Social Services offers extended hours
Effective today, the Hanover County Department of Social Services is offering extended hours each Wednesday.
The main office the Ashland Human Services Complex on 12304 Washington Highway in Ashland, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will remain unchanged (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).
Hanover Social Services also offers limited services at three other locations, staffed only by eligibility workers. They assist with applications and information about food stamps, Medicaid and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). All offices accept walk-ins; however, appointments are encouraged.These satellite offices and their hours are:
— Doswell – Jerusalem Baptist Church,16210 Short Cut Road, (804) 365-4172, (then press 1) Tuesdays only, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
— Mechanicsville – Fountain Park Office Building 1, 7374 Creighton Parkway, (804) 365-6774 or (804) 365-6762, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m., Friday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
— Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Medical Office Building 1, Room 309, 8260 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville (804) 764- 6190, Monday through Friday: 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.
No food-stamp applications will be accepted at the Bon Secours site. No electronic benefit cards can be issued at the Doswell, Mechanicsville or Bon Secours offices.
