PATIENTS, staff and visitors to a Midland hospital are being urged to stay safe in the sun as part of a campaign.

The campaign, warning of the harmful effects of over-exposure to the sun, has been launched at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.

It is being supported by a display in the hospital’s main entrance manned by Tracy Taylor, clinical nurse specialist in skin oncology, and skin cancer patients who will offer advice. Competitions and raffles are taking place with prizes including sun cream and beach balls.

Tracy said: “The number of skin cancer cases is on the increase, with 47 new cases of Malignant Melanoma diagnosed in Dudley in 2007. It is vital that people of all age groups are aware of the risks.

We have a display stand in the main entrance for people to get advice and to discover simple steps they can take.”
